Winter Theatre Intensive


February 22 – 23, 2019

for high school students in grades 9 – 12

Professional training in a Jewish summer camp environment!

The Deets:

  • February 22 – 23, 2019 - this is an overnight program

  • at Camp Bob Waldorf in Glendale

  • transportation to and from Camp Bob Waldorf will be available from the San Fernando Valley

The Classes:

  • musical theatre – Sing your heart out! Work on singing the story, vocal technique, and auditioning secrets.

  • improvisation – Find your "inner funny" through short form games, long form structures, and character exploration.

  • movement for the actor – Learn how to use your body to communicate character and relationships.

  • how to tell your story – Explore self-identity through storytelling and learn how to craft narratives inspired by your own personal experiences.

*This program is generously underwritten by the L.A. Jewish Teen Initiative. Actual cost of the overnight intensive is $395.

About the program:


The Art of the Teen offers performance-based gatherings to teens throughout Los Angeles. During the 2017-18 school year, the program consisted of a series of themed nights in which all participants engage socially while learning performance skills from theatre professionals. 

Workshops offered in 2017-18:

Storytelling Through Song: A Musical Theatre Workshop

with guest artist Rena Strober

Students developed their storytelling ability in musical theatre songs of their choosing. This event was presented in partnership with Adat Ari El Masor Youth Department.

Comedy Sports Night

with guest artist Ezra Weisz

Students developed improv skills through collaboration and light competition. This event was presented in partnership with Maccabi Clash at the Westside JCC.

Acting with the Voice Master Class

with guest artist Sabrina Hill

Students learned voice-based techniques for character creation and acting communication.

Musical Theater Master Class

with guest artist Rena Strober

Students learned new vocal warmups and how to pick the strongest songs for auditions and performance.

Audition and Scene Study Workshop

with guest artist Jami Rudofsky

In this interactive class, students learned how to stand out in an audition.

Improv Comedy Night

with guest artist Ezra Weisz

Students gathered for a night of improv and sketch comedy training.

The Art of the Teen is part of the L.A. Jewish Teen Initiative, co-funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and the Jim Joseph Foundation with seed funding provided by the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. Program partners include UpStart, Etzah, an Initiative of the AJU Graduate Center for Education, and BJE Impact.
